DANIEL PARKS

CLASSIC PIANO & ORGAN

Daniel Parks is a graduate student at the University of Southern California, where he is pursuing a doctor of musical arts degree (DMA) in pipe organ performance, with minor fields in orchestral and choral conducting. Dan is passionate about choral, orchestral, and keyboard music from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras. His favorite composers are Felix Mendelssohn and Joseph Haydn. In 2021, Dan researched and presented a lecture recital on German organ music from the Classical era.

Dan received a master’s degree in pipe organ performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music. While attending the Cleveland Institute of Music, Dan received special honors for outstanding achievement by an organ major. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Case Western Reserve University. Dan has played organ for services at several local churches, including Pasadena Presbyterian Church and Arcadia Community Church.

Dan really enjoys the fun, connection, and fulfillment that come from being a piano teacher. In his lessons, Dan places a strong emphasis on teaching the critical building blocks in music, such as rhythm and muscle control. He believes that all teaching and learning should happen in a happy, positive, and encouraging teaching atmosphere. Like all musicians, Dan was once a beginner himself, so he knows how difficult it can be to learn to play an instrument. Dan is not a “one-way-only” teacher. He will often present a student with multiple strategies to learn a musical skill or solve a technical problem, and then will let the student choose which way works best for them.
